What is a ferro rod?

A ferrocerium rod is a tough, dependable fire starter for camping, hunting, bushcraft, and emergency kits. Ferrocerium is a man-made alloy of iron and rare-earth metals like cerium and lanthanum.

How it works

Drag the striker, or the spine of a knife, firmly down the rod. That scrapes off tiny bits of metal, and they ignite as hot sparks, around 3,000°F. That's hot enough to catch dry tinder, char cloth, or a Blaze Fire Plug.
