Frequently Asked Questions
How do I light a Blaze Fire Plug?
Bend, fluff, spark. Bend the plug in half, pull the fibers apart with your fingers until they are loose and fuzzy, then light them with a ferro rod, lighter or match. The fluffing is what makes it catch, so do not skip it.
How long does a plug burn?
Each plug burns long enough to catch your kindling. Burn time changes with wind, cold and how much you fluff, so we do not make big promises. Get your small sticks ready before you light the plug and you will be fine.
Does it work when wet?
Yes. Blaze Fire Plugs are waterproof, so a wet pouch or a plug dropped in a puddle is no problem. For best results, fluff the plug right before you light it and keep the fluffed fibers as dry as you can. If they get soaked, squeeze them out, fluff again or grab a fresh one.
How many fires do I get from one pouch?
A pouch has 50 plugs. Most fires need one plug, so you can get up to 50 fires from a single pouch.
How long do they last on the shelf?
They are made for a long shelf life, 20+ years when stored properly. Keep them in the pouch in a dry place and they will be ready when you need them.
How should I store them?
Keep them in the pouch, in your pack, truck or emergency kit. Store them somewhere dry and out of direct heat when possible. Check your kit once a year like any other gear.
Are they safe?
Blaze Fire Plugs are non-toxic. They still make real fire, so use common sense. Clear the area, keep water or dirt nearby, keep them away from kids and never leave a fire unattended.
